Season Launch Night 2010/11

Don’t miss this great opportunity to meet the new squad and join the players in the Pagoda Room at Old Deer Park on Thursday 9th September, 7.00pm onwards, two days before our first home game of the season against Birmingham.

The evening will give you the opportunity to meet some of your favourite players and welcome the new talent to the London Welsh family in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

Hear from head coach Phil Greening and Club CEO John Taylor about the plans for this season, and some interviews with some of the latest additions to the squad.

Come and enjoy a meal and 2 pints (or equivalent) for a tenner..........yes a tenner!

All are welcome and feel free to bring a friend

We look forward to seeing you on the night.

Phone the office on 020 8940 2368 for tickets and information or book direct via the LW web site.

Away Travel

We will be running coaches to the away matches at Nottingham on Sunday 29th August and Plymouth on Saturday 18th September. The fares will be £19 and £24 respectively and first-timers, juniors and accompanying spouses are all entitled to a half-price rate. The Nottingham coach will depart ODP at 10am (convenient pick-ups are available en route) and arrive in the City centre in time for pre-match drinks and lunch. Last season those travelling by coach joined Nottingham's 'Pie Club' for lunch and are able to do the same again this time. The lunch costs £8 and is a quick, easy and sociable way to grab a bite to eat before the match. Phone the 'Hotline' on 07989 784082 to book you place on either coach or for further details.

On the 5th September the 1st XV are in Penzance to face the Cornish Pirates. It is too far for us to run a coach but we can help with travel and accommodation arrangements. Brian Jones has all the information and can be contacted on 07989 784082.

Quiz Night - Thurs 23rd September,  7.30pm

The Supporters Club and Youth Section are running a quiz night to raise money for the Youth Section. Our quiz master is the Chris Bell, the reigning BBC Sports Mastermind Champion, but he has promised that the questions won't all be Mastermind standard!

This is the first social event of the year and we are hoping that the 1st XV players, amateur sections and supporters will all enter teams. Entry is just £15 per team (maximum 6 players), the bar will be open and hot food will be available for purchase and a discounted price. Buy tickets from the online shop or contact 07967 205364.

Please put together a team and support this event.

"125 for 125"

As London Welsh starts its 125th season it is a great opportunity to look forward and come up with positive ideas for the future. With this in mind London Welsh member Pete Owen suggested that we should launch "125 for 125" where we collect at least 125 positive ideas to pass on to the London Welsh management.

All ideas are welcome and don't have to be restricted to the 1st XV. Although we can't guarantee that every suggestion will be adopted we do promise that they will all be considered as this has the backing of the rugby club.

Pete has drawn up the first 10 ideas:

1 Try half-back scheme. Give half of proceeds to those that sell tickets - schools, newsagents
2 Move score board back to previous spot
3 Produce checklist of match day activities with who is responsible
4 Give list of patrons ( and pen) at all entrances to give programmes out and cross off list
5 Put advertisement in all London student rag mags Are you Welsh and in London, then come and support the only Welsh rugby team in London"
6  Arrange with a brewer that 100 pints given free per week to students
7 Charge students £20 per year to be members
8 Go into local schools to give free tickets to one class at a time to come an watch us, parents get in free too
9 Change vegetarian menu regularly
10 Put what the menu is on the website in the week before the game.

It is now time for you to add yours. They can be emailed to us at lwsc_email@yahoo.co.uk or posted on the message board on the unofficial website.

Autumn Internationals

Our City Hall events for Wales' home internationals are always popular and tickets are now on sale for the autumn matches against Australia, South Africa and New Zealand. These can be bought from our online shop.

If you haven't been to City Hall before then why not give it a try? Hot food is available, the cash bar serves real ale and doesn't have the queues you find elsewhere on match day and the big screen shows the build up to the game.  We are currently confirming details of the choirs for each of the dates.

We are also running coaches to these three games. The door to door service runs from ODP to outside City Hall. Call 07989 784082 for details.

LWSC Membership

If you haven't yet renewed your LWSC membership for 2010/11 then once again our online shop is the place to visit.  Membership is just £10 per season and helps us support all sections of London Welsh from the minis through to the adult teams.

Finally, don't forget the Welsh Guards Military Tattoo at ODP on Weds 25th August. Admission is only £5 (free for children) and all proceeds go direct to the Welsh Guards' Afghanistan Appeal.   If you are able to help on the night either contact David Kurk via the Club Office on 020 8940 2368 or Nigel Doe on 07967 205364.

Name the year!

Many years ago Carmarthen Quins RFC were presented with a London Welsh shirt. They have now run out of room to display it and have sent it 'back home' to the custody of the Supporters Club. Unfortunately they don't know who presented it or even when!

We need your help to solve this mystery. The photos of the shirt are below and, due to the badge design, we believe that it is from before our centenary season.

Suggestions please to lwsc_email@yahoo.co.uk, leave a message on our guestbook, or post on the Dragons' Den forum.

Forums and Chat Pages

The London Welsh Supporters site is still extremely new and we have been debating amongst ourselves whether we should have  a chat page or a forum. If so, we would probably have an open area for everyone and a restricted area for SC members only.

What we would really like would be for you to tell us what you think about the idea. Should we have a forum or not?

Please join Dave the Occie and leave us a comment about it on our guestbook.
